Setting up Zotero

Step by step guide

  1. The install process for Zotero is handy, see the guide.
  2. Startup Zotero and login, then sync the database.
  3. Change the Base directory setting in the advanced Zotero preferences to a folder in an online cloud syncing service (e.g. Google Drive). This folder will be referred to as CloudFolder.
  4. Install ZotFile.
  5. Set the ZotFile preferences to the following:

    1. Source Folder for attaching new files set to Downloads.
    2. Location of Files, Custom folder set to CloudFolder.
    3. Subfolder set to /%w%y
    4. Renaming Rules set to {%y_}{%a_}{%t}.
    5. Change to lower case to true.
    6. Max title length set to 120 characters.
  6. Install the Zotero connector for your web browser.
